Crispy Tofu

Top-tier way to eat tofu!

Crispy tofu is always my go-to for pleasing meat-eaters and my fellow veggies. It is packed full of protein, so yummy and has that satisfying crispy crunch. This recipe is so versatile

In this recipe I specify a mixture of flour/breadcrumbs/cornstarch. You can use whichever you have on hand in any ratio you want. I wouldn’t recommend doing 100% breadcrumbs because they won’t stick to the tofu super well without flour/cornstarch to bind it. But other than that, it’s up to you. No special purchases necessary. My advice for what to use if you have everything are: I find corn starch helps make things crispier than flour does, but flour is an easier/cheaper way to increase volume and I don’t necessarily always have cornstarch on hand. Breadcrumbs I find give a bit of a thicker coating and make for a slightly more interesting, textured coating.

Ingredients:

  • 1 block tofu
  • 1/4 c total of a mixture of:
    • flour
    • corn starch
    • breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 425.
  2. Cut tofu into 1 cm cubes. Put tofu into a large mixing bowl.
  3. To a small bowl combine your flour/cornstarch/breadcrumbs, salt and seasonings of choice. Then, sprinkle this over your tofu and toss to combine.
  4. On a parchment lined baking sheet, spread out your tofu. Drizzle oil over top.
  5. Bake for 10-15 minutes until starting to get golden. Stir tofu, flipping as much as possible. Then put back into oven and make a further 10-15 minutes, until browned.
  6. Enjoy as is or toss in your favourite sauce 😊
