Sesame Crusted Tofu

My favourite way to eat tofu, which is the highest praise I could give!

I (controversially?) am not a fan of pressing tofu, I just don’t have the patience for that. So this recipe, uses the natural wetness (ew haha) of the tofu to hold onto lots of coating, ensuring a perfect crispy tofu! This tofu is seriously a crowd pleaser, I have converted many tofu skeptics to fans with this recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 block firm/extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: chili powder / cumin / 5-spice / nutritional yeast

Directions:

  1. Cut tofu into 1 cm (1/4ish inch) thick slabs
  2. Mix flour, cornstarch, sesame seeds, salt, seasonings of choice together and spread on plate
  3. Heat pan over medium-high heat with a drizzle of your oil of choice
  4. If tofu is dry (more likely if you are using extra firm tofu) dip in water and then place on plate, flipping to ensure tofu is well coated in cornstarch mixture.
  5. Place tofu in pan, flipping once golden brown (roughly 3-5 min)
  6. Allow to cool slightly on wire rack.
  7. Enjoy 😊 !
